Understanding the Contacts & Registration Search

Learn how the Contacts and Registration search works and how to search more effectively using names and email addresses.

Need help finding a participant or registration? This guide explains how the Contacts and Registration search works, what information it searches, and best practices for finding participants quickly using their name or email address.

Overview

The Contacts and Registration search has been updated to provide faster and more accurate results.

The search now looks at only three pieces of information for each registrant:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address

How Search Matching Works

Search results are based on the beginning of a word.

For example:

  • Searching jo will find John, Jordan, or Mary Jo.
  • Searching Ohn will not find John, because the search does not match the middle of a word.
  • Searching sarah will find sarah@example.com.

💡 Tip: For the best results, search using the beginning of a participant's first name, last name, or email address.

Searching Multiple Words

You can search using more than one word.

When multiple words are entered, every word must match the beginning of a word somewhere in the participant's name or email.

For example:

  • John smith will match John Smith and Smith, John.
  • Longer names can still be found as long as each search term matches the beginning of a word.

💡 Tip: If your search returns too few results, try searching with fewer words or shorter portions of the participant's name.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What fields does the search look at?

A: The search only looks at the participant's first name, last name, and email address.

Q: Can I search by phone number or address?

A: No. Phone numbers, addresses, and registration question responses are no longer included in search results.

Q: Why doesn't searching part of a name return results?

A: The search matches the beginning of a word only. Searching for the middle of a word will not return matches.

Q: Can I search using multiple words?

A: Yes. When searching multiple words, each word must match the beginning of a word in the participant's name or email address.

Q: What should I do if I can't find someone?

A: Try searching with the beginning of the participant's first name, last name, or email address. If you're using multiple search terms, try using fewer or shorter words.
